We’re celebrating another wonder fabric this week on the blog with a homage to stretchy, oh so soft and comfortable jersey.

Originally made from wool, jersey can now be found in many guises from cotton to viscose, often with an elastane mix for extra stretch.

The benefits of Jersey

Jersey is incredibly versatile, it can be cut to drape and skim the body. Its weight means it flows and moves with you. But because of its elasticity it is great for more fitted pieces too, sculpting the body and enhancing your shape. Jersey is a durable fabric that washes well, it’s often crease resistant and most importantly, for us anyway, is the stretch.

Jersey – Your Travel Partner

There’s no better travel partner than jersey.

We all know that sitting on a plane, train or automobile for hours isn’t always the most pleasant of experiences. We often feel cramped or get a bit achy and irritable. To compound that, there’s nothing worse than your clothes making you feel the same too. That’s why Jersey is perfect for travel. Its stretch, movement and soft touch feel will help ease your travel discomfort.

Caring for your Jersey

  • Wash jersey on a cool wash and make sure any patterns or garments with embellishments are washed inside out.
  • Try to avoid tumble drying your jersey clothes, it can often lead to shrinkage. Instead, line dry or dry on a clothes airer.
  • Jersey rarely needs ironing but if it does need a quick press, make sure you iron on the reverse, using a medium heat setting with a little steam.

If you love jersey as much as we do, why not head to the plus size jersey section and check out the newest pieces to hit the website.
